In the past month, I watched four famous anime movies: the three Evangelion rebuilds and the third Madoka movie.
「ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:序」(Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone) is the first of the rebuilds. It is essentially a summary of the first third of the anime. とてもきれいなえいがです! そして、おもしろいです。 私はえいががすきだった。 でも、ちょっとかなしいです。 The main character is only a 14-year old kid, and he's pressured into a fight in order to save the world by fighting "Angels" in mysterious humanoid mecha called "Evangelions". The movie nicely depicts how most kids would handle the immense pressure.
いかり しんじ, the main character |
あやなみ れい, a fellow Eva pilot |
「ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:破」(Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance) is the second movie. とてもすいごいです! In this movie, the plot begins to branch off from the original series. The movie is extremely well executed and interesting. In fact, it was probably my favorite anime movie of all time next to 「涼宮ハルヒの消失」(The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi). I won't go into plot details for those you haven't seen it yet.
しきなみ あすか, another fellow Eva pilot introduced in the second movie |
かなめ まどか(ひだり)と あけみ ほむら(みぎ), two of the main chracters |
Overall, I'd give the first Eva rebuild a 9/10, the second a 9.5/10, the third an 8.5/10, and the Madoka movie a 9/10. All four were fantastic movies, both in writing and animation--all are highly recommended!
こんいちくぁシュさん!I noticed that we like a lot of the same movies! The ヱヴァンゲリヲン and まどか series are two of my favorite movies. I loved the Madoka series so much that I felt that it was appropriate to name my blog after the first movie (it also helped that it felt particularly relevant!). I have yet to watch the new movie (way too busy with school work), but I definitely want to check it out either this weekend or some time during winter break. Homura Akemi is one of my favorite characters ever. I went to a Japanese anime store the other day and I was so tempted to buy a soul gem phone charm, but I decided against it because it was $20. :'( I really really wanted it though!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I love about ヱヴァンゲリヲン (I've watched the tv series and all the movies) is that all the characters are so real, messed up, and sympathetic. The rebuild movies are so beautiful. It makes me laugh almost to think that when the original tv series was airing, they had practically no budget! The second movie was definitely the best of the three. It was so thrilling and exciting. The third movie depressed me to no end... For the 4th movie, I'm not holding any particular expectations at the present, just because I don't want to be disappointed! Anno can go either way, really. Painfully cruel or wonderfully merciful. Either way, it'll make me cry hahaha. It'll definitely be interesting however, so I'm looking forward to it!
Additionally, the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is one of my favorite movies as well! It was so beautifully executed (in terms of atmosphere, plot, characterization) that I didn't even realize that 2 hours were over. The movie makes up for everything that the second season missed.
Awesome!! It's always nice to meet someone with similar tastes :P
DeleteDefinitely check out the third Madoka movie, although the blu rays haven't been released, there is a decent quality camrip out there which I used (the subs were below average though). I like Homura a lot, but I'd still have to say Madoka equally good. No spoilers but the third movie changed my perception of a few of the characters A LOT!
I totally agree with you on Evangelion. The first time I watched it, I was used to perfect or unrealistic characters, so I kinda hated Shinji and the whole series in general. But after rewatching it and then watching the rebuilds, I understood how much of a masterpiece Evangelion is. I HATE ANNO THOUGH! He is such a troll!! I mean, almost nothing in the preview of the third movie (at the end of the second movie) actually happened! Ugh... although I guess I still liked the third one in the end. And did you hear about how he said Mari was Shinji and Asuka's child? WTF? He literally just dropped that in the middle of an interview!
I loved the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya as well. I could not agree with you more when you said you didn't realize the 2 hours were over! In fact, the run time was 2 hours and 42 mins, but it felt like 30 mins to me. I loved Yuki in the first two seasons and that movie just made me love her even more :P
Anyway, thanks for your comments! You have excellent taste in anime :)
